FeatherWorks Author
Writing software for authors with embedded local AI — entity recognition, style analysis and proofreading, without the manuscript ever leaving your hard drive.

What FeatherWorks is
A Rust/Tauri desktop application for authors with an embedded language model for systemic tasks: identifying and cataloging characters and entities, analyzing style, supporting editing.
Plus a custom layout engine with InDesign XML export and spell check / LanguageTool integration. Everything runs offline.
The assistant is named Fonta!ne — after the typeface, after Theodor Fontane, known for his attention to detail, and after the fountain when creativity is meant to flow. The exclamation mark is the house sign that runs through everything here. He initially ran on Phi-3 and now works on Gemma 4 E2B in 6-bit quantization. That the model layer could be swapped like this without touching the application above was the point from the start.
What it can do.
Fonta!ne, local
The built-in assistant runs on Gemma 4 E2B (Q6) — loaded at first start, then fully local.
Continuity
Characters and entities are recognized and tracked throughout the entire manuscript.
Layout engine of its own
Typesetting and export without third-party software — from running text to the finished page.
InDesign export
XML export for the print workflow, to ensure the file remains compatible during production.
Style and spelling
Checking via LanguageTool, complemented by the style analysis of the embedded model.
Offline-first
No cloud dependency. The manuscript never leaves the hard drive.
